The Table

Foot Rest - The foot rest is constructed from an upper and lower arc cut from 1/2" plywood, 2X4 ribs cut into 8" lengths, Luon skin on the outside.  Gorilla Glue brand wood glue and sheet rock screws are used as fasteners.  The foot rest is covered in low pile, black speaker carpet.  The carpet is held in place with 3M #77 adhesive .  The underside of the foot rest features seven 2.5" biscuit feet painted black with felt pads affixed to the bottom.

Pedestal - The rounded pedestal is formed from arcs cut from 1/2" plywood and like the foot rest it uses 2x4"s  for ribbing.  Each rib stands 40" and the assembled pedestal is covered in Luon on the outside, and plastic tub surround on the inside.  The upholstery consists of quilters batting, doubled over and glued to the Luon, with a sofa fabric wrapping the exterior face and secured with staples.  The base and pedestal are secured together with counter sunk carriage bolts an wing nuts, to allow the table to break down for ease of moving.  A shelf occupies the interior space.

Play Surface - The play surface is constructed from 3/4" Cabinet grade Plywood.  It is covered in 1/4" closed cell Volara foam.  The foam was glued down with spray adhesive and then a 45 degree bezel cut was applied around the outside edge and around any of the places where accessors mount..  The play surface connects to the pedestal by means of counter sunk carriage bolts and wing nuts, this arrangement allows the table to break down into it's component pieces to be moved.  The felt layout merits it's own section and is covered in more detail there.
